As the largest art museum in the southwestern United States, Phoenix Art Museum has more than 17,000 works of art covering many different styles, including Western American, American, Asian, European, fashion design, Latin American, contemporary, and modern. Browsing the galleries you’ll see plenty of famous works that you’ll already know – such as Gilbert Stuart’s 1796 portrait of George Washington, or pieces by Robert Henri and George Singleton Copley. While at the museum, grab a bite to eat at the museums restaurant, the Palette, and tour the lushly landscaped Sculpture Garden. The museum holds many special events and festivals throughout the year, so it is a good idea to check out the website in advance of your visit in order to plan accordingly.

The Phoenix Zoo is the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the United States. The Zoo is located in the Papago Park area of Phoenix and is designated as a Phoenix Point of Pride. The zoo is divided into four main themed areas including, the Arizona Trail, the Tropics Trail, the Africa Trail, and the Children’s Trail. It also includes a sanctuary to care for animals that are endangered or unwanted. For those that want to get close to the animals, there are several interactive exhibits where you can pet a stingray or feed a giraffe.

With 1,400 animals on display and 4 km of walking trails, and electric scooter or wheelchair will ensure you see as much of the zoo as possible. The Phoenix Zoo is entirely wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. Be aware that due to crazy summer heat in Phoenix, the zoo closes early (at 2pm some days) so get there as early as possible in order to have the best experience, and trying to see all of it in one day can be intense if you aren’t used to the heat.
